After waiting months for the weather to warm up, spring is finally here and we’re ready to get out in the garden. With the Chelsea and Hampton Court Flower Shows just around the corner, it’s got us excited about planting our own flowers and getting inspired by the stunning displays. So, if your garden is in need of a little refresh, look no further – here are a few practical gardening tips, along with ways you can start enjoying your outdoor space this month.

1. De-wintering your garden
Before you start planting, give your garden a good tidy. Clear away leaves, dead plants and any other debris that has accumulated over the winter months. This not only improves the look of your garden, but also prepares the soil for new growth. It’s also a good time to take old toys and scooters to the tip and clean out any garden furniture. If you’re looking for some handy seating for those in-between weather days, our Admiral Chair is brilliantly compact and easily folded and stored away, so it doesn’t need to be left outside during the April showers. Why not set it up while you’re gardening and make the most of the sunny spring weather when it finally arrives?

2. Prepare your spoil for planting
Spring is the ideal time to get your soil ready for new plants. Begin by loosening the soil and adding compost to improve its quality. If you’re growing vegetables or flowers, make sure your soil is rich in nutrients. If you have raised beds, now is the time to top them up with fresh soil. This can be a lovely activity to involve children, letting them use their own garden tools. We have our Metal Ridges collection, featuring little tubs for planting and Mini Watering Cans – a great way to get little ones interested in gardening.

3. Prune your plants
Pruning is an essential part of spring garden care. Cut back dead or damaged branches from shrubs, trees and perennials to promote healthy growth. Trim any overgrown plants and shape your garden to prepare it for the new season. Invest in a good pair of pruning shears and take your time to avoid damaging your plants. If you’re starting new buds indoors, our Plex and Walnut Hanna Plant Stands provide a chic and safe home for your pots. Even if you don’t have an outdoor space, they can work as your own little indoor garden oasis – bringing a touch of biophilic design into your home.

4. Refresh your outdoor furniture
Has your outdoor furniture seen better days? Looking for something versatile? Our Ranch Day Bed combines a custom outdoor foam-filled mattress with a sturdy solid pine frame, offering a cosy sofa for two. When you want to lounge in the sun, simply adjust the arms to a horizontal position to transform it into a daybed or single bed. If your outdoor space is a compact patio or balcony, our Naples Bistro Table and Chairs are back in stock – the perfect set for small-space living.

5. Add personal touches
Your garden is an extension of your home, so why not make it as inviting and personalised as your indoor space? Adding decorative touches like tea lights and statement planters can really bring your garden to life. Potted plants in vibrant colours or textured pots can help highlight key features. And don’t forget cushions and throws, they’re perfect for adding a pop of colour while making your seating areas extra comfy. These don’t have to be special outdoor cushions; just bring cushions out from indoors – but remember to take them back in when you’re done!
