5 ways to bring warmth into your home

Now the clocks have changed, temperatures are dropping and the days are getting shorter – it’s the perfect time for small changes around the home to make it warmer and more comfortable for winter. Updating your soft furnishings, adjusting your lighting and choosing cosy furniture can make all the difference without the need for a full home makeover.

Here are five simple ways to prepare your home for the colder months ahead:

Add cosy textures

Layering soft furnishings is one of the easiest ways to make your home warmer and more inviting. Drape a throw over your sofa, keep a blanket nearby for chilly evenings and add a bedspread to give your bedroom a cosy feel.

Cushions are another simple way to add comfort, colour and texture. Mix different fabrics and sizes to create a relaxed, layered feel, choosing materials such as fleece, velvet, chunky knits and faux fur. Autumnal shades of ochre, deep olive and soft neutrals work particularly well together.

Introduce warmer wood tones

Autumn is the perfect time to introduce richer tones into your home. Darker wood finishes can bring a lovely sense of warmth and character to a room, creating a cosy feel without having to change your entire colour scheme.

We’ve recently launched our new Ria Bedside Cabinet and Chest of Drawers in a walnut-effect finish, while our popular Oak Leaning Ladder Shelves (narrow, standard and wide) are now available in a beautiful dark oak finish.

Create a cosy glow

Lighting plays an important role in how a room feels, particularly during the darker months. Instead of relying solely on overhead lights, introduce a combination of lamps and smaller light sources.

Place a table lamp beside your sofa for reading or use a floor lamp to brighten a corner. Warm-white bulbs can create a softer atmosphere, while LED candles inside tea light holders add a gentle glow.

Choose furniture made for relaxing

As we spend more time indoors, having somewhere cosy to curl up and relax becomes even more important – whether it’s a quiet corner for reading, a sofa for family movie nights or somewhere for guests to stay.

Our new Santiago Sofa Bed is a stylish and versatile option that easily transforms from seating to sleeping, while the compact Sendai Sofa is perfect for creating a cosy corner in a smaller space. For something a little different, our Koko Chair, upholstered in soft bouclé, brings texture and comfort to any room.

Add warmth underfoot

There’s nothing quite like stepping onto a soft rug on a cold morning, especially if you have wooden floors. Rugs are a simple way to instantly make a room more inviting.

Whether you prefer a thick, fluffy rug for the bedroom or a simple flat-weave design for the living room, there’s something to suit every space. Choose soft neutrals for a relaxed, understated look or introduce a pattern to add a little personality.
