Scottish International Storytelling Festival
The world’s finest feast of traditional storytelling. Once Upon a Place looks at the past, handed on to us in story and celebrates our common humanity with tales and songs that connect across the continents in a 10 day feast of storytelling ceilidhs, talks, landscape tours and specially commissioned performances. From 24th October to 2nd November 2014.

Samhuinn Fire Festival – Beltane Fire Society hosts
Formed in 1988, Beltane Fire Society is a community arts based performance charity that hosts the Beltane Fire Festival and Samhuinn Fire Festival in Edinburgh. 31st October 2014.

Illuminating York
As the nights draw in, the 2014 Illuminating York promises to shine more brightly than ever before. The festival draws more than 50,000 people to the city to experience York in a new light. Cutting edge technology creates a colourful celebration of York’s unique heritage, from spectacular sights to hidden gems. The theme for the 2014 festival is Leading Lights, uncovering the rich history and future innovation and discovery in the city of York. 29th October-1st November 2014.

Remus Memorial Horse Sanctuary
The Sanctuary and animal centre provides care and rehabilitation for 200 horses, ponies, donkeys, cows, sheep and cats in the heart of the Essex countryside. The Centre will be hosting an open day
on Sunday 5th October Open Day from 1pm. Dogs welcome. Lovely sandwiches, cakes and drinks provided.

Sherlock Holmes – The Scandal of the Scarlet Woman
The world’s most famous detective meets the world’s most dangerous woman….Sherlock Holmes – The Scandal of the Scarlet Woman promises a tussle of sleuth like intensity building to a thrilling climax that takes the protagonists – not to mention the audience – entirely by surprise! 16th-17th October at Civic Theatre, Chelmsford.

Chelmsford Parks Marathon
The J’s hospice is hosting the first ever Chelmsford Marathon! On the 19th October 2014, the two lapped course will take runners through five of Chelmsford’s most beautiful parklands.

Fright Night
Forget horror movies, you can hide under the sofa from them….this is LIVE! There’s nowhere to run and there’s nowhere to hide. You’ll be taken further into the darkness; will you find your way out? Hyland House’s terrifying trail promises to disorientate your senses and test your nerves. 31st October and 1st November 2014.
