Cambridge Live Trust Bonfire Night
Cambridge’s annual bonfire night and fireworks display is set to take place on Midsomer Common on 5th November 2015 from 6-10pm. This event is run by Cambridge Live, a not-for-profit charity trust that runs the Cambridge Corn Exchange, Cambridge Folk Festival and also delivers a range of events on behalf of the council. This event is free, although donations on the night are welcome.
The North Pole
The North Pole returns to Parker’s Piece, Parkside, Cambridge, CB2 1AA on Friday 20th November 2015 until 4th January 2016. Entry to the North Pole is free, but you can buy tickets in advance online or at the onsite box office for the attractions. Attractions include an ice rink, fabulous fairground rides, an undercover alpine bar, Christmas markets, festive food and that all important Santa’s Grotto, which arrives on 28th November. There’s an early bird offer for individuals and groups who book the ice rink by 19th November, with an automatic 20% off.
St Neots Christmas Lights Switch On 2015

Join revellers from across the region to celebrate Norwich Castle’s fabulous fireworks display and bonfire from 7.30pm on Friday 6th November 2015. Just a five-minute walk from Norwich bus station, a 15 minute walk from Norwich railway station and easily accessible from Thickthorn and airport park and ride, there’s no excuse for not joining in!
Beginner’s Course in Puppeteering Skills
A practical course exploring how to bring puppets to life. Over two evenings on 17th and 24th November 2015, participants will learn how to communicate different emotions through changes in movement to develop different characters. This course is led by Rene Baker who has worked in professional puppet theatre for over 20 years as a performer, director, designer, teacher and researcher. The course is designed for adults seeking to learn techniques in puppetry. £50 for both sessions, from 7-9pm.
BBC Concert Orchestra
The BBC Concert Orchestra makes its debut at Chelmsford Civic Centre on Sunday 15th November 2015 from 4pm in an exceptional afternoon of music, which sees over 50 orchestra members on the Civic Theatre Stage. The focus is on three works by three great composers: Wagner’s miniature masterpiece Siegfried Idyll and Richard Strauss’ Oboe Concerto are both wonderfully intimate works from these masters of the large scale, and Dvorak’s Eighth Symphony is one of the most joyous in the orchestral repertoire. The concert will be conducted by distinguished British musician Michael Collins and the concerto soloist is BBC Concert Orchestra’s Principal Oboe Gareth Hulse.
Discover Your House History
Who used to live in your house? Have you ever wondered about the history of your home? Whatever type of building you live in, it, or the land it is built on, is sure to have a history and the Record Office may hold the key to unlocking your home’s past. This session will enable you to begin to discover the history of your house, or other buildings, using documents from the Record Office’s collections. Thursday 19th November 2015 from 2-4pm. Christmas Light Switch On & Lantern Parade
Plymouth will turn into a dazzling heaven to celebrate the start of the countdown to Christmas Day. The festival and Christmas celebrations will begin on Thursday 12th November with the annual Christmas Light Switch On. Singer and Panto star Chico, and British R&B band Damage have been confirmed as the special guests this year. Taking Place outside Drake Circus from 4pm, with entertainment provided by Heart, visitors will be able to see the city centre transform with many new lighting features. The new features will replace old and outdated lights on Cornwall Street and New George Street and are expected to bring a more modern feel to Christmas.
Taking place on Sunday 15th November 2015 from 8.30am, Britain’s Ocean City 10km will start and finish in Princess Street. The route will be the same as last year and entry fees are £22 for registered athletes and £24 for non-registered athletes. Registrations can be done through www.runplymouth.co.uk with entries open until Wednesday 11th November.
All Things Vintage & Festive Show
All things Vintage & Festive is set to take place at the Guildhall, Plymouth on Saturday 21st November from 10.30am-4.30pm. A Christmas fair to get you in the festive spirit, the Show will feature over 65 good quality stands with lots of Christmas entertainment. Entry £2.
Father Christmas Story Time
If you can’t wait until the Lantern Magic to get a glimpse of Father Christmas and his sleigh, then we’re giving you the opportunity to meet him during the day. Fireworks at Dunorlan Park
Royal Tunbridge Wells annual fireworks display will be held at Dunorlan Park on Saturday 7th November 2015. Come and see a spectacular display in the natural amphitheatre of the park, with food, drinks and rides too. All money made goes to charity.
Santa Specials on the Spa Valley Railway

York Christmas Markets
York is a Christmas shopping heaven with its eclectic mix of shops as well as wonderful Christmas markets throughout the city’s atmospheric streets! The festive shopping starts off with the ever popular St Nicholas Market on 19th November and continues all the way to December 23rd 2015. During St Nicholas Market, there is a sense of stepping into a scene from a Dicken’s tale with bustling Victorian market stalls selling everything from local produce to traditional gifts and crafts, all accompanied by the smell of roasting chestnuts and the sound of carol singers.
Nottingham’s Winter Wonderland is set to be bigger and better than ever. Now in its third year, the annual event sees traditional wooden stalls, an outdoor bar, an ice rink and fairground rides set up shop in the Old Market Square from November 20th 2015 until 3rd January 2016. Key highlights include the biggest ice rink in the Midlands, a 40 foot Christmas tree, a festive market, an Old England themed event and much much more.
Christmas Lights Switch On
Christmas is officially launched in Eastwood town at the annual Christmas Lights Switch On event from 6pm until 8pm. This year’s event includes a packed programme of free festive entertainment, live music and dance, street performers, buskers, land train, peddled powered cinema in the Library bar, fairground rides and much more. At 7pm the Switch On ceremony will take place and the finale fireworks display will be at 8pm.
Bristol German Christmas Market
Welcome to the 7th German Christmas Market in Broadmead part of Bristol Shopping Quarter from 6th November to 22nd December 2015. Open 10am to 8pm every day with beer garden open from 10am to 10pm. The 38 traditional chalets decorated with festive greenery and colourful lights, the Christmas nativity Pyramid, giant advent calendar and beer gardens combine to create a festive atmosphere in the heart of the city centre shopping area. This year’s entertainer is Der Alpen Klaus. Klaus does a lot of entertaining at the Munich Beer festival and similar events all over the country. For the Xmas Market he will deliver a lot of Xmas style music on top of his repertoire which consists of over 500 titles.
Light Switch On
Bristol Shopping Quarter will switch on its Christmas lights in theatrical style this year with a magical Cinderella themed event on Friday 8th November 2015, marking the start of the festive season. Shoppers in Cabot Circus will be treated to a dazzling performance combining acrobatics, dance, music and theatre as the countdown takes place – and the Christmas lights are switched on throughout the centre of Bristol. At 5.30pm a magical procession will begin from The Galleries through Broadmead led by the storybook pumpkin carriage and prince charming who make their way to Cabot Circus. Crowds will then be treated to a spectacular show under the iconic glass roof which will be performed by acrobats from this year’s Circus Festival and will feature a range of exciting acrobatics where Cinderella laments her hardship before becoming the belle of the ball and illuminating the Christmas lights.
Battersea Park Fireworks Display
The annual feel-good fireworks display returns to Battersea Park on Saturday 7th November 2015 for another night of pyrotechnic pizzazz following this year’s theme of A Royal Night Out. Fireworks will be set off to music chosen to celebrate our longest reigning monarch, Queen Elizabeth II. With its beautiful riverside setting Battersea Park hosts arguably the biggest and best display south of the river and this flagship event features a massive bonfire as well as monster fireworks. Gates open at 6pm.

Oxford Street Switch On
Kylie Minogue is set to switch on Oxford Street’s Christmas Lights on November 1st 2015. Joining Capital FM breakfast hosts Dave Berry and Lisa Snowden, the Australian pop star will launch London’s festive shopping season outside the Pandora store at Marble Arch at 5.30pm. Other acts entertaining the crowds will be Foxes, Fleur East, Ben Haenow and Gabrielle Aplin, as well as a cast member from Matilda the Musical.
Winter Wonderland in Hyde Park
Festive family favourite Winter Wonderland returns to London’s Hyde Park from 20th November 2015 to 3rd January 2016 with ice skating, big top shows, the observation wheel and a huge Christmas market.
Book Week Scotland
Book Week Scotland is a week-long celebration of books and reading that takes place every November. For 2015 it will take place 23rd-29th November. With many of Scotland’s authors, poets, playwrights, performers, illustrators and book lovers coming together to celebrate everything wonderful about the written word, there’ll be a packed programme of events for all to enjoy.
One of Europe’s finest Christmas festival returns with a month-long programme bringing warmth and festive cheers to Edinburgh as the city transforms itself into a magical winter wonderland. Activity is centred around the world-renowned Princes Street Gardens. From 20th November 2015 to 6th January 2016.
Emporium Panto 2015
The Brighton Emporium’s annual Christmas Show returns. This year’s big event is Aladdin. Expect boo-able villains, toe-tapping numbers, loveable heroes, jaw-dropping sets and stunning costumes. Emporium’s Aladdin is an exotic cavalcade of dance, laughs, thrills and romance. And the occasional song. Torn lightly from the pages of the 1001 Nights, this will be the brightest, bounciest, bazaar-est tale ever told, guaranteed to tease and transport anyone who has ever believed in magic. From 2nd December 2015 to 9th January 2016.
Lights Switch On
The largest seasonal display of lights on the south coast, the Brilliant Brighton Christmas lights will be switched on at an event from 5pm on Thursday 12th November on East Street. The audience will enjoy a packed on-stage line-up including live performances from The Sleigh Belles and The Theatre Workshop, in addition to some very special guests to be announced. Seasonal characters in fancy dress and stilt walkers will also be on hand, mingling with the crowd, spreading festive charm and entertaining the little ones.
Bollo House Craft & Vintage Christmas Fair
Held each Saturday in December, the weekly Fair will offer Christmas tree stalls, craft, handmade and vintage items, tea and cakes, beer and wine as well as lots of great gift ideas. Hot food and mulled wine will also be available in case you get chilly! Free entry! Also, from December 13th the Santas Grotto will provide Christmas cheers to all good little boys and girls.
Christmas Switch On
Kingston always puts on a good show to mark the switching on of the Christmas Lights and this year they don’t disappoint. Hosting a Charles Dickens-inspired Christmas lights switch on, the town centre will boast Victorian street magicians, sideshows and travelling circus performers. The theme comes in celebration of the Rose Theatre’s hotly anticipated production of A Christmas Carol. There will also be a Christmas market selling gifts and festive foods, a Fanshaw Emporium, with roguish chaps reading your mind, six-piece male vocal group Acafella putting a modern twist on Christmas carols, and an array of characters from the novel taking to the streets. 19th November celebrations 3-6pm, lights switched on at 6pm.
Jack and the Beanstalk on Ice
Fee-fi-fo-fum at Guildford Spectrum’s ice pantomime! Spectrum will be home to a big, bad giant, a golden goose and a magical beanstalk this Christmas as the popular pantomime Jack and the Beanstalk takes to the ice. The three day festive ice show will run from 11th to 13th December and will feature performances by some of the region’s rising skating stars.
Christmas Switch On
Join all your favourites in Guildford on Thursday 19th November as we switch on the Christmas lights and kick-start the countdown to Christmas! Music and entertainment in the town from 2pm, balcony show at the Guildhall at 6pm, lights switch-on and fireworks at 7pm. Emma Stevens and the Charley Farley Sunday Four will see off the evening in style with live music after the fireworks until 8.30pm.
Princesshay Christmas Lights Switch-On
Princesshay is pleased to announce that it will once again be hosting Exeter City Centre’s annual Christmas lights switch on event on 19th November 2015. There will be a spectacular new decoration scheme, lighting up areas and walkways never previously illuminated. Thousands of LED lights, including lit canopies and hanging chandeliers, as well as lighting projections, will compliment the Christmas Tree centre pieces and a special walk through lit up bauble structure. Watch out for the two polar bears! There will be an appearance from Sound of the Sirens, a two-piece local girl group who recently featured on the new series of TFI Friday.
Jack and the Beanstalk
One minute Jack’s mother is chucking his magic beans in the bin, the next thing he knows he’s whisked off to a land of giants where great treasures await…unless he ends up in an enormous cooking pot! With a stellar cast, Kickline Theatre returns to Exeter Corn Exchange for December and January with an incredible mix of magic, laughs and silly sing-alongs.
