New Trend for 2017: Clean Sleeping
Stop the press – there’s a new lifestyle trend alert!
2017 is the year for getting back to basics. Last week’s blog focused on the latest Gezellig trend – the warmth you feel when having dinner with friends, surrounded by a gentle feeling of happiness through companionship. An evolution of 2016’s obsession with all things Hygge, Gezellig is very much food focused.
And now, the spotlight is on another of life’s key pillars – sleep. This time our inspiration comes courtesy of Gwyneth Paltrow’s Goop website.
We’ve all heard about clean eating, right? Well in 2017 it’s all about Clean Sleeping.
According to journalist Louise Atkinson in her review of the Goop trend, “Sleep plays such a powerful role in determining your appetite and energy levels that I believe it should be your priority – even before you think about your diet.” What’s more, the Clean Sleep movement proposes several great habits to adopt, which include:
-Aiming for up to 9 hours of sleep each night to promote energy, glowing skin, glossy hair and a slim waistline
-Meditating before bedtime to help get a restful night’s sleep, thereby calming a busy brain and promoting relaxation
-Avoiding eating before bedtime – late night snacking can disrupt the digestive process. To give your body an overnight ‘cleanse’ keep to a regular 12 hour fasting window (so if you finish dinner at 8.30pm, you shouldn’t eat breakfast until after 8pm the next day)
-Keeping a pot of moisturiser by your bed and giving yourself a three minute massage before bed (hand massages are our favourite)
