The Whole World is a Garden

If you look the right way, you can see that the whole world is a garden, said Frances Hodgson Burnett, author of ‘The Secret Garden’. And here at Futon Company we wholeheartedly agree!

Whether your garden (and as small space experts, we use the term ‘garden’ loosely!) is the size of a football pitch or a tiny balcony space for one, there are plenty of ways to create your very own outdoor sanctuary. All it takes is imagination and outdoor products designed specifically with space saving in mind.’s blog post on how to make the most of your seriously small apartment balcony really got our pulses racing – so many ingenious ideas. Some of our favourites include:

• Use planting of different heights to create a garden retreat
• A hammock can really maximise a tiny space, including a Juliet balcony
• You can create a little seating area on your balcony with some creates by piling cushions on top
• A bistro set maximises small space eating
• Hang plants on the outside of the railings and pick pieces of furniture with a smaller footprint than usual
• Even if your balcony is too small to do much with, you can still open the doors and let the outdoors in, so that your whole room essentially becomes an outdoor space
