Stock Up On Your Sleep
For many of us, the bit in between Christmas and New Year is the best part of Christmas – especially if we don’t have to work. It involves plenty of R&R, binge-watching movies and box sets, Quality Street for breakfast and the last of the sherry to wash it down. And the best bit of all? Long lie ins and plenty of shut-eye.
In the past, politicians and high achievers used their lack of sleep as a badge of honour, boasting of getting by on just four hours sleep a night. Today’s movers and shakers, though, are “shunning the cult of sleeplessness – a hangover from the 1980s” (grazia.co.uk) and making the most of their evenings. In fact today it’s more acceptable to attribute the secret of your success to eight hours of shut-eye than a caffeine addiction!
What’s more, large corporations have recognised the importance of sleep. Accountancy giant PwC are sending their employees on sleep courses “because sleep is absolutely crucial to performance.”
So there you have it – permission to sleep because it’s proven that sleep is the key to a happy, healthy and productive performance at work.
