Are you still embracing the summer spirit, dreaming of sun-drenched beaches and cocktails at sunset, or are you ready to embrace the back-to-school mood that typifies autumn? Or maybe you’re one of those with their eye firmly on the future, namely Christmas?

With less than four months to go until the big day, it seems some sectors of society are already well underway with their Christmas shopping! It’s true that many retailers unveil their seasonal selection to the media in July each year, while some stores have already opened their Christmas departments. Are they creating a hype to maximise sales or simply tapping into a trend?

The latter, it seems, is where it’s at. According to a survey by hexbug.com, it’s Mums who shop like Olympians, with over 27% of parents shopping all year round. What’s more, there are plenty of child-free people who start Christmas shopping early to make their pound stretch further.

So what’s to be gained by starting early? According to a range of experts including streetdirectory.com, moneysavingexpert.com and www.lovemoney.com, the benefits are multiple, including:

• Minimising stress
• Avoiding last minute panics and impulse purchases (which are often more expensive)
• Benefitting from summer sales, Black Friday, mid-season sales, flash sales and special offers

Futon Company says: Present shopping aside, if you’re planning to host Christmas at home and need to invest in new furniture, it’s worth thinking ahead and ordering early to get ahead of the queue on Christmas delivery dates. What’s more, if your home is cosy and compact it’s a good idea to take your time over space planning to maximise small space living. Check out some of our new small space living superstars…
