Glamp-tastic Getaways for Summer

With summer in full swing, here at Futon Company we’re always on the lookout for ace alternatives for holidaying in the UK. So Grazia magazine didn’t disappoint, with its 27th July article ‘Glamp it up’. Writer Alice Tate says: “think glamping is just posh yurts and twee crockery? Think again. These days it’s altogether cooler, with futuristic domes, caravans on stilts or chic thatched huts…”

Elmley Nature Reserve, Kent, from £75 per night
“Be glamorous on a shoestring at Elmley Nature Reserve, surrounded by nothing but nature and rugged marshland. Wake up to beautiful sunrises, admire starry nights and kick back with a G&T and watch the frolicking wildlife. All three bespoke Shepherd Huts feel charmingly nostalgic, and are spruced up with contemporary furnishings. It’s the only place in the UK where you can stay the night in a nature reserve, making the whole experience feel even more special”

The Dome Garden, Gloucestershire, from £98 per night
“In Glourcestershire’s Forest of Dean, 11 space-age-style domes scatter the woodland, ranging from 12ft to 14ft in size, catering for a cosy tow, or a more boisterous eight-person party. Quirkiness continues inside, with Astro Turf (to mimic the grassiness of regular camping!), colour-changing lamps and wood-burning stoves”

A Little Bit of Rough, Uppingham, Rutland, from £135 per night
“Glamp here and join the exclusive crowd of those in the know. A Little Bit of Rough keeps its exact location secret. Somewhere tucked away in leafy Rutland woodland are two safari tents raised off the ground and with waterproof canvas coverings. There are three bedrooms in each and wooden floors throughout, plus leather sofas, fresh, hot running water and even a roll-top bath”

North Star Club, Sancton, Yorkshire, from £140 per night
“Dubbed a magical woodland escape, this is a glamping village comprised of eight natural huts nestled in 500 acres of woodland in the Yorkshire Wolds. Each hut has a cosy sitting room, bedroom with king-size bed, a wood burner and spacious bathroom. Pick the Star Suite to enjoy a copper bathtub, four-poster bed, sauna and i-pad dock. Glamping doesn’t get any better”

Brocklock Treehouse, Dumfries, from £155
“Live out your childhood dreams and spend the night in the magical tree house you always wanted. Basically caravans on stilts, these come complete with a kitchen, double bed, bath and wood burner. Slit windows let natural light flood in a skylights allow for long nights of stargazing. Added luxuries come with charging points and electric light, thanks to the solar panels on the roof”
