Glamp It Up
As champions of small space living, here at Futon Company we view camping as the ultimate test in how to make the most of a compact space. So a recent article in the Evening Standard’s Homes and Property section on 8th July 2015 caught our eye.
Called ‘Glamper Heaven’, it said “luxury camping might seem a perfect contradiction. Yet from celebrities partying at summer festivals to young families keen to get back to nature, ‘glamping’ – glamorous camping – is here to stay.” The article continues, “the concept is based on the splendour of African safaris, where pampered guests sleep in the wilderness under canvas with five star hotel comforts. This is camping in name only, with tents fitted with fireplaces, linen sheets and even roll top baths.”
According to Homes & Property, glamping havens in the UK include:
Coastal Valley Camp & Crafts in Newquay. Accommodation includes pre-pitched tents, small Hobbit-style lodges and a safari tent with three bedrooms. The safari tent houses wooden surfaces and a Belfast sink. Open February to October from £380.
The Dandelion Hideaway is the first glamping business to win a VisitEngland award for excellence. Based in Leicestershire, the site has six canvas cottages, each sleeping six, with one bedroom inside a secret wooden cabin. The cottages use Farrow & Ball heritage colours, linen curtains, and fabrics and wallpapers. Open March to October with three night weekend stays from £575.
Knaveswell Farm is a Dorset based site offering four safari-style tents. Located on a 156 acre dairy farm “guests can collect eggs for breakfast from the hens, visit the piglets and the ponies nearby or watch the cows being milked.” Open from Easter to the end of October, with prices from £290 for three-night weekend stays.
Futon Company says: Fancy a spot of makeshift DIY glamping? Maybe you’re planning a weekend away under canvas, or perhaps a summer camping trip looms? We have plenty of goodies to tempt you to try…
