A Day to Remember…

A reminder that Mothering Sunday is fast approaching – and it’s really early this year (in case you had forgotten!), falling on Sunday 6th March 2016. In the UK, Mothering Sunday – or Mother’s Day as it’s popularly known – falls on the fourth Sunday of Lent, exactly three weeks before Easter Sunday. Usually it falls in the latter part of March or early April.

A celebration of mothers and the maternal bond, the day has long been associated with mothers, grandmothers, stepmothers and families. In the days when domestic servants were popular, the day often took the form of a family reunion. Children would pick flowers and bring gifts for their mother.

Mother’s Day in the US falls on the last Sunday in May every year, while Maman’s special day in France takes place on the last Sunday in May.
